Have You Ever Been A 'Chicken Sitter'?!

      Well, Y'all, I found out today that I'm no longer the only 'bird' taking up residence in my husband's heart! He now has fourteen other birds that have taken his heart too! ^_^ It's a good thing they're 'REAL' birds, real chickens in fact! :-)
      While I tell you the story, I'm gonna share some pretty chicken items from some shops on Etsy. :-] But, of course, you knew that was coming, didn't you?! ^_^ I do love to share my fellow Etsian's items! ^_^

      Now, as I was saying, I am no longer the only 'bird' taking up residence in my husband's heart. Some friend's of ours went away for the weekend and asked hubby to 'chicken-sit'...feed and water, and gather the eggs of...their chickens until they came back.
        When they first asked him, he was leery! The reason is because he's kind of a city kid. Well, compared to his southern relatives, he's a city kid! :-)) He certainly has never owned chickens!! :-) When he was a young boy though, and used to go south (North Carolina and Georgia) to visit his relatives, he did see chickens!
       His grandfather's chickens wouldn't let him get anywhere near them though! They were FREE RANGE chickens, with a rooster that would protect them...and attack YOU if you got anywhere near them!! :-))

      Compared to that experience, he said that taking care of our friend's chickens was 'a piece of cake!' ^_^ ...He was amazed at how docile they were! When he went by to feed and water them, and collect the eggs, they came right up to him. :-)

         He did say though, that when he entered the shed where the coop is, three of the 14 chickens stood up! They were like 'the protectors'!...(Apparently they all have their own sitting positions in the coop.)...One of the ones that stood up was a big one. And there was a middle-sized one, and a small one too. :-) He thinks they were just surprised by his entrance...You know how it is when somebody steps into your door that you didn't expect! LOL
        When he was hanging up the water container though, two of the chickens escaped! O_O And like the good 'chicken-sitter' that he is, he got his 'cowboy groove on'...and went to corral some chickens!... ^_^ ...one at a time. NO PROBLEM! ^_^ Although one did peck his finger!...Thankfully it wasn't a hard peck, and besides, he had gloves on. :-]

      All in all, he says he enjoyed being a 'chicken-sitter' very much! :-) And ever since he got back from watering them again today all I've been hearing is how much he likes the chickens! :-) He even said something about wanting his own chickens!! O_O

      I'm gonna encourage a stop to that chicken train of thought though! ^_^...even though I 'do' like chickens too!...For me, liking chickens is very different from wanting to OWN chickens!!...It's sorta the same as liking children is very different from raising children!...in my book it's the same any way!! :-)) They're both really cute!...but they're a lot of work...every day...day and night....and day again!! LOL

        In my younger days I would've been game for owning chickens AND raising children! But I'm too old and too contrary for all of that folderol now! ^_^ Now I'm just happy about keeping companionship with a chicken lover! LOL...Have a good day, Everybody! :-]

Animals Everywhere

There are animals everywhere,
out-numbering husbands, kids and wives.
Do you see them when you travel?
Do you have some in your lives?

The chickens in the yard
step and jut their necks in stride;
Cackling birdie conversation
as you throw seed side to side.

Horses gallop down the hill,
through the field outside the gate;
Along the beach edge of the water
their strong legs will dominate.

All their waking hours
kittens tumble, jump and leap;
Then they curl up anywhere,
purr and breathe a peaceful sleep.

Baby chicks will follow
right behind their Mama's wings.
But they sometimes get distracted,
and their Mama's "Cluck!" then rings.

Doggies know their station.
They're secure in who they are.
They unguardedly will love you.
Just as quick, they'll chase a car.

There's many things that we can learn
by just watching what they do.
But let's not imitate their aggression,
and their need to balk and chew.

Let's recognize where we're alike.
Both of our constant needs for love,
And there is food, shelter, attention,
and much more we could speak of.

Yes, there are animals everywhere,
out-numbering husbands, kids and wives.
Giving lessons by example,
and so much meaning to our lives.
